Sessions are all 8:30 am to 12:30 pm from 6th to 10th January 2020 NOW CANCELLED with a Presentation at the end of the final session.

8 out of the 9 participants from last years School Holiday Program went on to do Tackers 2 in the Term 1 Saturday mornings program. You will not see this in our program schedule as this is only run if sufficient interest from this School Holiday Program is forthcomming. 

This is the warmest time of the year with the best weather to Learn to Sail so is a popular course each year.

The club provides all the boats and safety equipment, a morning snack break and experienced Qualified Instructors and Assistants. Participants also reveive a pack that includes Tackers Carry Bag, with Tackers rashie (spandex) top, Tackers Cap and Tackers Drink Bottle.

Mordialloc Sailing Club is a very family friendly, mostly volunteer run club and encourages parents / guardians to assist with these courses. Our Instructors will help you with assisting if you are also new to the sailing world and lingo. Your assistance may include launching and retrieval of rescue craft, with launching and retrieval of the Tackers in the club boats plus preparation of snacks, sausage sizzle or alternatives. If the weather is suitable we may even have parents assisting in the coach/rescue boats or if you are interested in going for a sail in an adult size dinghy yacht, this can also be arranged.

Course Overview
This course aims to provide children aged 7-12 with a fun, safe and affordable way to get into sailing. 

Course Prerequisites

• Water confident
• 7-12 years-old

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:

• Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
• Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
• Tack (push turn)
• Gybe (pull turn)
• Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
• Sail with tiller extension
• Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat

You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
